Later, research suggested it could have been an unusual fungus or slime mold. These organisms can appear in surprising shapes and colors while quietly helping break down organic material on the forest floor.

The most memorable part, however, was not necessarily identifying it. That tiny blue patch was a reminder that even familiar places can still hide unexpected details, and sometimes all it takes is slowing down long enough to notice them.
