I expected an ordinary visit with my friend. We spent hours drinking coffee, laughing, and sharing old memories. But when I stepped into her bathroom, something immediately caught my attention.
The toilet seat had a large opening at the front. At first, I thought it was cracked or missing a piece. I stood there staring at it, too embarrassed to ask why she had not replaced what appeared to be a broken seat.
Even after I returned home, I could not stop thinking about it. My husband was just as confused when I described what I had seen, so later that night, I searched online for an explanation.
That was when I discovered the seat was not broken at all. The open-front design is common in many public bathrooms and is intended to reduce contact with the front of the seat, improve hygiene, and make the area easier to clean.
What began as an awkward moment taught me something surprisingly interesting. Sometimes the most ordinary objects have thoughtful designs behind them, even when they initially look completely wrong.
