I had been enjoying ten peaceful days by the seaside, so the last thing I expected was a frightening surprise waiting inside my own bathroom. The moment I opened the door, I noticed a long, dark, twisted shape hanging from the bathtub overflow. From where I stood, it looked horribly alive.
My heart dropped. It seemed like something had crawled out of the pipes while I was away and was now dangling over the tub. I could not tell whether it was a snake, a dead animal, or something even worse. Every instinct told me not to get any closer.
For several minutes, I remained frozen in the doorway. Part of me wanted to grab something and pull it out, while another part wanted to leave the house immediately. Eventually, curiosity became stronger than fear, and I slowly stepped closer to inspect it.
After carefully examining it and comparing photos online, I finally discovered the truth. It was not a creature at all. It was a thick buildup of hair, soap residue, body oils, and grime that had slowly collected inside the overflow drain before sliding out while I was gone.
The fear disappeared instantly, but the disgust certainly did not. Nothing had invaded my home, thankfully, but the experience taught me one unpleasant lesson. Even the cleanest-looking bathroom can hide something disturbing deep inside its pipes.
